What a year 2013 is showing itself to be! As of June 30th, the markets are up over 13% year to date, the chapter is looking to a great third Quarterly Education meeting, and it's time to register for this year's, not-to-miss, Allied Professionals Summit set for October 23rd.
We would not be experiencing this success without our active members. If time flies when you’re having fun, and "no man is an island," then this year is a good one when you're happily engaged as a chapter board member or committee volunteer!
FPA of Orange County is consistently thought of within the FPA community as among the best chapters in the nation. This didn't happen overnight, and it didn't happen because of the work of any single individual - quite the opposite in fact.
This Chapter succeeds because of the work of the many who serve, and therefore have the opportunity to reap the benefits of being involved in something larger than themselves. This applies not only to members of our Board of Directors, but even more importantly, it includes the many members who choose to participate on committees and the many other avenues of involvement available to each and every one of us.
However, it would be unjust to stop there. Our success is also directly related to each of our Chapter Partners. These fine individuals entered into partnership with our Chapter because of their commitment to helping grow the financial planning profession, and to help us better serve our clients. Additionally, their financial commitments make a large part of what we do actually possible. For example, the cost of running our Quarterly Education Program each year consumes approximately 45% of our resources. Absent the financial assistance our partners provide, this program alone would easily cost each attendee over $300 per year!
Clearly, we should be thankful for our Partners! Accordingly, I ask each and every member to take a little time at each of our upcoming meetings and events to seek out and thank at least one Partner for all they do! Not only are you likely to find another way to enhance your ability to better serve your clients, I've no doubt you'll meet someone quite likable as well!
Additionally, please keep your attention directed toward this newsletter, our regular bulletins, and chapter website. We are trimming down our email messaging in favor of these formats, and want to make sure you don't miss out on all that is happening.
We on the Board thank you for your membership and continued support!

Do 1 Thing, For Mercy House
FPA of Orange County is looking for volunteers who are passionate about educating the underserved about Financial Planning!
On Tuesday, September 3rd; Tuesday, September 10th; Tuesday, September 17th; and Tuesday September 24th from 7:00-8:00PM, we will be conducting a 4-part financial education series for the residents at Mercy House in Santa Ana.
Mercy House provides housing and comprehensive supportive services for a variety of homeless populations which includes families, adult men and women, mothers and their children, persons living with HIV/AIDS, individuals overcoming substance addictions, and some who are physically and mentally disabled. They strive to assist their residents in the areas of economic, emotional, and spiritual well-being in order to enhance self-esteem and a sense of personal pride. They value accountability, integrity, and self-sufficiency.
Looking for an intern? Would you like to be an intern?
FPA Orange County sponsors a very active internship program for both interns and employers. Individuals who would like to experience working in a financial planning office or those who are just “kicking the tires” can sign up to be an intern. Planners who seek occasional extra help or who might be looking to see how a potential new employee might work out can utilize the services of the intern.
Internships last for approximately ten weeks. Interns need to be able to work at least 10 hours per week to be able to get a good understanding of how a firm functions.
The FPAOC Internship Program has been an ongoing success in our chapter for many years. Both interns and employers have great results. Contact Linda Barlow for more information.
