PRO BONO OUTREACH
The Committee's motto is:
"We want to create a world whereby everyone thrives and prospers."
The Pro Bono / Community Outreach Committee has dual foci: Pro Bono services and Community Outreach.
PRO BONO MISSION: The FPA pro bono programs are aimed at assisting individuals and families who are “under-served”; that is, those who need financial planning but lack the means to engage a financial planning professional on a commercial basis. Qualified under-served clients are further defined as those whose low income and lack of assets make them potentially eligible for public assistance. Pro bono financial planning advice is provided to qualified clients free of charge, with no sales or promotion of any products or services.
OUTREACH MISSION: The FPA community outreach programs are aimed at assisting individuals and families who do not qualify as "underserved", yet we recognize they also have a need to access financial planning education and tools.
We design, organize and hold events with various Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to educate the CBO's constituents either one-on-one or in a group setting. Our committee members often are the impetus behind an initiative. Volunteers come from within the Committee as well as from outside the Committee, depending on how large an event is being sponsored by the FPA OCC.
Our Committee is for the person who acknowledges the inherent message in the well known passage: "For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be expected." We welcome all who have a "heart" to further the Committee's Missions
Our volunteers can lead an initiative of their own choosing, or they can volunteer to help in other committee members' initiatives. If you have a passion for an area that meets either of our Missions, we welcome you to share it with us and we will help you see it grow.
If you are interested in any of the following areas: Boy Scouts, Financial Education in High Schools and Colleges, Red Cross Disaster Relief, Families Forward, Council on Aging in OC, Women’s Shelter, whether it is in the capacity of a full committee member, part-time, or just as an occasional consultant, please contact Heena Shah and Paul Kirz, Co-Chair's of the Pro Bono Committee.
